Office art? Or office sound dampening? How about both! Some of the spaces we create most often are office interiors, particularly lobbies and boardrooms. A moss wall not only adds a beautiful natural focal point but can also help dampen sound. Its unique plant cell structure creates deep air pockets that naturally absorb and soften noise, making it both a functional and eye-catching addition to your workspace.

Lobbies

Lobbies are the first impression upon entering the workspace. A fantastic place to introduce a sense of calm through the incredible beauty of nature. Studies show that productivity increases when workspaces are built to evoke creativity and productivity through materials that make us feel welcome, cozy, comfortable, and inspired. Moss walls, or any green plants within a space, help create a sense of stillness and grounding similar to what we experience when spending time in nature. And for us, we love to use as much green as possible!

Boardrooms

Boardrooms are used primarily for meetings and gatherings, and as such there are limited items in these areas and space can be tight. A long table, chairs, and maybe the odd potted plant in a corner or two. Floor space is limited and yet, boardrooms often need something to help soften sound and reduce echo, which is where moss comes in.

Workspace design is becoming increasingly focused on how humans experience space. By incorporating plants through various green wall designs, businesses are creating environments that feel and are connected to nature. A few beauties where we have been asked to create for exactly these purposes are featured here.

Magna Insurance

Five years ago, I created Magna Insurance's first moss wall, which was installed in the lobby. Fast forward to today, and we were asked to create a similar moss wall of the same design for their new office as they had outgrown their previous space.

Entering the new lobby is an all-new illuminated piece installed behind the reception desk. Take a walk down the hallway and their original piece now installed in the company’s glass boardroom where the pop of green can be instantly seen by everyone passing by. Function and beauty!

Entropy

This fun office was a joy to create for as the textures, layers, and depth of this piece make it a true classic. Upon entering the office, we walk past a ping pong table — which is used regularly — and into the boardroom space, where there is a long table, chairs, and a projector screen sitting opposite the moss wall. The company logo was created out of acrylic, elevated against the textured moss. Each time a meeting is in session, those calling in are given a view of the moss wall across the room.

S2 Architecture

At S2 architecture, an elevator brings people directly to the floor that this office space resides.

As the doors open, visitors are immediately greeted with a cozy seating area featuring a moss wall backdrop.

A clever way to integrate design with functionality, the surrounding area is stunningly beautiful, modern, and open concept, while the Forest Art creates a central feature that helps absorb surrounding sounds and soften sound waves.

DEG Engineering

This gorgeous blend of textural mosses was integrated together to create an organic design that connects with the surrounding space through its grounding colours and textures.

The lobby features our very first freestanding and moveable moss wall, measuring approximately 3 feet wide by 6 feet tall. This free-standing frame was built for simplicity, design, and functionality, as there is a sliding doorway behind the moss wall.

We needed to create something off the wall while also providing the option to move it if needed, without sacrificing design, as this is the first impression for those entering the space.

The second piece is a stunning sister design to the lobby installation. Hung slightly higher than the main office area's desk height, this piece is enjoyed by everyone throughout the day. The matte black frame colour was matched to complement the existing black table leg supports and other black accents throughout the area.

Moss Wall for Office — bringing nature indoors for inspiration

I find some of my most productive writing time, like writing this blog, is sitting at the table in my backyard garden. The rustle of trees and colourful textures of plants that surround me, creates a space where ideas can flow freely.

May we all work in spaces that inspire us, places where we find healing, creativity, and connection. By bringing elements of nature into our workplaces, like Forest Art, we can create environments that not only inspire but also help reconnect us with the natural world.
