As a moss wall designer in Western Canada, I have the privilege of creating unique Forest Art pieces for residential spaces. Today, I would love to chat about the home. The space we occupy every day. I'd love to share the design process behind a few of these pieces to let us think about moss wall design ideas for your home and show how nature can transform your indoor dwelling.

Imagine walking into a forest. The sense of calm washes over you, the senses heightened to smell, sight, and sounds. A moment to take it in and to simply just be. This is one of the purest forms of rest and rejuvenation for humans to experience, something that connects instantly to our hearts.
This is the main reason I love creating for spaces that are looking for Forest Art. It never feels unnatural, but rather the most natural art to connect with. Whether it’s a space we work in or the spaces we live in, nature will always bring us into a place of calm and connection — either with ourselves or with others to enjoy it with.
Questions that I ask clients before designing
When a client has a request for a piece of Forest Art, one of the things I like to start with is an in-home visit. This is to meet the client and start gathering information on who they are — their quirks, style, aesthetic, and the overall feel of the home. How do they use the space? Where do they congregate? Upon entering, what first greets them?
There are other questions too, such as outdoor drafts, and sunlight exposure. But the most important are impact and intention. Whether the space is small or large, Forest Art is experienced best when it fills the space as if the space was created for it. We are looking at all of these layers that reveal the absolute best opportunity for the moss wall.
Let's dive into a few gorgeous moss walls created for some wonderful folks!
HARMONY
Tucked into the forest, this home in Alberta recently underwent some updated renovations, natural finishes and cozy spaces are only a couple things I love about this home, and the kitchen is one of them.

Hanging at the end of a leathered granite island almost seamlessly so as not to leave space for wall, from the granite leads directly into moss! The eyes are drawn upward into layers of lush mosses blending in a couple of simple shades of warm toned greens.
This piece is accented with outward dimension, giving the effect of a contoured forest floor. A kitchen is naturally a space where folks gather over preparing food, and this feature art piece draws in both beautiful design and natural conversation.
Westcoast dream

This beauty is hung between the kitchen space and the living room, sort of a division that still connects each area. It is also seen immediately when you first come through the main entrance, making it a feature art piece that connects spaces and draws you in.
Created with dark, moody mosses for a monochromatic yet textured background, it features preserved ferns layered overtop for added dimension. A cascade of coral ferns, parchment fern, davallia fern, and maiden hair fern, to name a few.
One of the fun highlights of this piece is that every couple of years the ferns are replaced as part of the maintenance program. Each time it is given fresh ferns, the Forest Art look and shape changes, changing the types of ferns every couple of years, leave the client with essentially a new look to the art each time. A fun feature indeed!

Little dipper
Immediately as you enter through the main doors, a wide expansive staircase greets the family with glass partitions and black steel stairway. The space is modern, simple, and spacious.

I loved the idea to create something with bold colour and intentional swirling lines using various shades of mosses like pole moss, fern moss, sheet moss, and mood moss. The pop of colours draws those who come through upward into the main living area, which connects with the kitchen and dining space.
A feature wall with art that has busy movement does not leave you feeling distracted but rather works because the surrounding space is minimal in the materials used elsewhere. This piece was designed to highlight striking lines without competing with the surrounding fixtures.
moss wall design ideas — unique to each space
As with every piece created to be different from the next, homes are a special space to design for. They are places that are intimate to you and your taste of nature, where moss walls are a highlight designed to bring conversation and connection.

We hope this blog inspired you to explore how forest art pieces could fit into your home and bring you comfort.
